Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras

Krewe of Cork:

This krewe celebrates wine, food, and fun in the days before the Mardi Gras. They wear costumes that resemble grapes and the colors of the wine they drink, and they are followed by the "wine police" that follow them around during the festivities and ensure that they are always drinking wine. I personally picked this one because I love a good wine now and then, especially white moscato and sweet red wines. Underneath are some of my wine based designs in pencil and in paint.

After this step I recreated one of my smaller designs onto a larger face sketch in pencil and then I did a line rendering for the sketch and a color rendering with acrylic paint. Heres a look at my sketch and renderings.

This all female krewe is dedicated to celebrating the strong and beautiful Queen Cleopatra. The krewe celebrates her ferocity and power while celebrating the history and fun on New Orleans. Here are some inspiration photos of different depictions of Cleopatra.

Heres my smaller sketches in pencil and after I painted them.

Here's the design I chose on a larger scale as well as the line rendering of it and the color renderings over my headshot.

This newer krewe, founded in 2013, celebrates femininity and beauty of women as well as inward and outward reflection. Their colors are red, black, and white. This krewe also celebrates Mardi Gras through dancing as they perform choreographed dances to R&B hits at the celebrations in Louisiana.  Here's some inspiration for this krewe's look as well as my four design options in paint.

Time for makeup!!! :)

When it came down to picking a look to do, I went with this Krewe of Cleopatra look because the colors were bright and the design was simple for my first run with the water color makeup. First I drew the lines of the design on my face lightly with one of my Ben Nye pencils.

I then painted the yellow paint. This paint went on pretty well, but the green was a little more difficult. At first the green was very light, but then I had to put more water on it and it eventually turned into a darker and more vibrant green.

I then mixed red and black to make a dark maroon color and I finished up the painting of the design. Mixing the red and black was pretty easy, and then painting the lines and my lips with the maroon and black went better than expected.

I was happy with the turnout :)

After I outlined my designs in black, so here's some looks at the outlined final product.

Added bonus!! Jess and I had some fun with snapchat that day :)

  1. I like the black cheek details you added-- it looks sort of like contour
